​My path to launching a The Savvy Senior came from several failed attempts at other careers over the last 20+ years, that never seemed to work out. After professional attempts in human resources, hospitality, and retail sales to administration management, marketing and rail car cleaning, ... it was time to take my Business and Communications degree in a new direction!

It started with an accident, a close family member, aged 73, injured with a broken back. After going through this situation with a loved one, I began to see and think differently about older adults and aging-in-place. I began to consider adult children caring for their aging parents, seniors that are perhaps alone or recently windowed, and the seniors who are aging at a distance from their adult children. I recognized the complex pressures facing many older adults and busy, young families nowadays.

 

Understanding the limitations older adults are facing, not just in unforeseen circumstances, but in managing every-day life so many don't have the LIFESTYLE support they need, and ... A-HA!​​​  The Savvy Senior - Proactive Support for Aging Well at Home.​

As Calgary's senior population is projected to grow up to 40% by 2031, more families are facing the practical challenges of 'Aging' — from coordinating appointments and services, to managing everyday responsibilities, researching housing options, and planning for future transitions. Many families currently working with health-home care providers don't necessarily need more hands-on medical care. What they often need is someone who can help manage the everyday pieces of life around that care, including:

 

• Coordinate, arrange transportation for, and attend appointments

• Run errands and assist with practical household tasks

• Provide regular check-ins and companionship

• Help families research and navigate local housing and transition resources

• Assist with decluttering, downsizing, and preparing for a move

• Keep adult children informed and connected when they can't be there themselves

• Serve as a trusted local point of contact for older adults whose families live elsewhere

 

The Savvy Senior provides one reliable point of contact to help manage all these lifestyle details with a proactive approach to non-medical support that complements independent living, home healthcare, and community services. 

 

Our goal is to support the aging journey by providing reliable, compassionate, and personalized lifestyle support that promotes independence, dignity, and confidence. Not every senior needs more hands-on healthcare hours, rather, many need more HUMAN hours instead.​​​
